According to the Pentagon’s statement, the United States has supplied Ukraine with anti-radar missiles to be used by Ukrainian aircraft to defeat Russian radars.

The representative of the Ministry of Defense said that these systems are a series of high-speed anti-radar missiles AGM-88 (abbreviated HARM).

According to the Military Analysis Network of the Federation of American Scientists, the AGM-88 HARM (High Speed Anti-Radar Missile) is a supersonic tactical air-to-surface missile designed to search for and destroy radar-equipped enemy air defenses.

The AGM-88 can detect, engage and destroy a target with minimal crew involvement. Guidance is provided by receiving signals emitted from ground radar. The missile has the ability to distinguish a target from various sources of radiation in the environment.

The proportional guidance system, which focuses on the radiation emitted by enemy radars, has a fixed antenna and a homing head in the nose of the missile. The rocket is propelled by a smokeless, solid-fuel, double-thrust rocket engine. Version B has an improved manual section with enhanced tactical software and electronically reprogrammed memory.

AGM-88 HARM: Technical specifications:

  • The AGM-88 HARM (High Speed Anti-Radar Missile) is an American high-speed anti-radar missile capable of targeting high-frequency radars. It is less vulnerable to conventional obstacles, specifically calculates the position of the target and can hit it even if the radar is turned off.
  • The maximum launch range of the AGM-88 is 150 km, the minimum is 25 km. Its maximum speed is approximately Mach 2 (2448 km/h).
  • The weight of the rocket is 355 kg (warhead 66 kg), its length is 4.1 m.
