The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced another recall campaign in the US, which this time will affect only 11 cars, but very expensive ones.

Ten S-Class sedans of the V223 generation and one Mercedes-Maybach in the back of the Z223, which fell victim to a manufacturing defect, fell under the recall. For the safety of car owners and those around them, the German automaker asked not to use sedans for their intended purpose and to refrain from traveling.

The issue came to light following complaints from several customers, most of whom reported surprising noises in the rear of the car, with one even noting the sedan’s erratic behavior while driving.

After reviewing the information from the owners, Mercedes-Benz considered the problem with the quality of the rear subframe of the cars. It turned out that the problem in welding parts did not allow high-quality welding of the junctions of the two elements of the undercarriage.

Therefore, luxury sedans are not able to effectively cope with road irregularities – bends from the straight line can occur when braking, and in extreme cases, an accident is not ruled out at all if the weld does not withstand the loads while driving.

Mercedes-Benz promised to provide all owners of cars with a defect with a replacement S-Class for the duration of the repair. The timing of the service campaign, all work, in which the owners of cars will be free, is not reported. There is no information about whether the problems with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Mercedes-Maybach S-Class are similar in other countries.
