Apartment in Portugal sold for 3 BTC

On Thursday, May 5, an unnamed owner of an apartment in the city of Braga (Portugal) sold it for cryptocurrency without converting it to fiat. This was explained by Zome, who accompanied the process.

“This transaction represents a historic milestone, the transfer of a digital asset to a physical asset – a home – without being converted into any euros,” the message said.

According to Idealista, the home cost the buyer 3 BTC ($108,335 at the time of writing). The publication reminded that in April, owners and real estate agents were allowed to transact using digital assets. Before that, the buyer had to convert them to fiat.

In February 2022, a Dutch family who invested all their money in bitcoin announced that they had moved to Portugal, with the authorities’ staunch attitude towards cryptocurrencies.

However, according to a survey by the country’s National Council of Financial Inspectors, cryptocurrencies were the least popular financial instrument among respondents.

Recall that in May 2021 the Arte Surfside boutique condominium opened the sale of apartments in Miami for bitcoin and Ethereum.

In the spring of 2022, DAMAC Properties, one of the largest luxury real estate developers in Dubai, announced that it will allow its clients to use BTC and ETH as means of payment.
