Asset manager WisdomTree will begin beta testing its mobile crypto wallet in the summer, and the app will be available to all US customers in 2023. Jason Guthrie, the firm’s head of digital assets, told The Block.

The WisdomTree Prime app was announced in January 2022.

In the first phase, users will have access to tokenized versions of assets. Among the most recent, Guthrie listed the US dollar, US government bonds, gold, bitcoin and Ethereum. He noted that this list will be expanded in the future.

According to him, WisdomTree aims to provide customers with the full functionality of the banking system while getting rid of outdated technologies. Guthrie emphasized that blockchain-based systems are serious competitors for traditional finance.

“I don’t think the financial services industry is having its Internet moment. People fill out forms online, but they are nominally the same as forms filled at bank branches 20 years ago. The user experience and business model are basically the same. And I believe it’s time to overthrow this order,” he said.

Recall that WisdomTree tried to launch a spot Bitcoin ETF. In March 2022, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission delayed the deadline for decision on the company’s application to May 15.
