Cryptocurrency exchange Bitstamp has confirmed the resignation of Julian Sawyer as CEO. According to the company’s website, he will be replaced by Jean-Baptiste Graftier.

In October 2021, Sawyer replaced Neich Kodrich as CEO of the exchange. According to a press release, 18 months later he “decided to pursue other opportunities”.

Graftier served as Bitstamp Director of Compliance from November 2014 to February 2016, according to his LinkedIn profile. After a five-year term at eBay, he returned as CEO of the European region stock market in 2021.

“We are delighted to welcome a CEO with such an impressive track record and look forward to the contributions and perspectives he will bring to the company in his new role,” the statement said.

According to CoinGecko, Bitstamp is the 20th largest cryptocurrency exchange at the time of writing.

In August 2021, the media reported on Kodrić’s lawsuit against the owners of the cryptocurrency exchange after attempts to buy the remaining stake from him on previously agreed terms.

Prior to that, Bitstamp announced its upcoming expansion into the US market and announced the appointment of Robert Zagotta, former senior executive of Kraken bitcoin exchange and CME Group, as head of its US division.
