Swedish startup GOALS, which is developing a blockchain football game, has closed a $15 million seed funding round, The Block reports.

Investors include venture capital funds Northzone, Cherry and Moonfire Ventures, and football player Gerard Pique. The funds raised are planned to be used to recruit 30 developers to deliver the game by the end of 2022.

GOALS is an online game where users will have to earn in-game items such as football clubs, characters and model skins through their actions.

Game artifacts in TARGETS are offered in the form of non-exchangeable coins. Users manage teams of 15 players, each of which is stored in its own address in the form of NFTs.

“You can only have appearances in FIFA for a short time. You cannot control them, you cannot sell them, there is no transparency. “Blockchain is the perfect solution for this problem,” says Andreas Torstensson, founder of GOALS.

Game developers aim to profit from transactions on NFT marketplaces and commissions from additional content sales.

For the past few months, the company has been working on blockchains to choose the network on which to build the game. Favorites include Polygon, Starkware and Solana. GOALS noted that each user will have a large number of tokens, which will require high network bandwidth.

Previously, Cross The Ages metaverse raised $12 million in a seed round.
