American online marketplace eBay has launched a collection of non-tradable tokens in partnership with the OneOf NFT platform.
“NFT and blockchain technology are revolutionizing the aggregation space and are increasingly seen as an investment opportunity for enthusiasts,” said Dawn Block, vice president of eBay.
Genesis’ first collection features 3D and animated images of iconic athletes featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Canadian hockey player, four-time Stanley Cup winner Wayne Gretzky was named the first NFT.
“Forty years ago I was grateful to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated, it was such an important moment in my life. I am honored to offer a collectible experience to hockey fans who have followed my career for decades,” Gretzky said.
Earlier, DJ and producer Alesso and the US National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences announced a partnership with OneOf.
In May 2021, OneOf raised $63 million in a seed funding round. Environmental activist Bill Tai, Jack Herrick, Suna Saeed of Nima Capital, Sangha Capital and the Tezos Foundation participated.
Recall that in the same month eBay allowed users to trade NFT. Prior to that, the company’s president, Jamie Iannone, said that the site is considering accepting payments in cryptocurrencies.
