Some of the funds will be used to support Boston Dynamics, which Hyundai acquired in 2021. The automaker said it is committed to growing its robotics firm by expanding its manufacturing capabilities and product line.
Hyundai also announced its support for Motional’s Boston-based autonomous car division. The company plans to make autonomous technology more secure and accessible to customers in the US and other countries.
In addition, the automaker will allocate an additional $5.54 billion to build an electric vehicle factory in the US state of Georgia that will produce 300,000 cars per year.
Construction of the facility will begin in 2023.
Recall that in May Hyundai announced the four-legged car Elevate.
In April, unmanned buses with hydrogen engines were launched in South Korea. The vehicle was developed by Hyundai Motor and Hyundai Mobis.
