Matthew Bellamy, lead singer of British rock band Muse, has invested in the Pebble startup, which has raised $6.2 million in seed funding.
Investors also include Y Combinator, Lightshed Ventures, Cadenza Capital, East Ventures, Orange DAO and Global Founders Capital, National Football League’s Odell Beckham Jr. and Richard Ma, CEO of blockchain audit firm Quantstamp.
Pebble co-founder and CEO Aaron Bai said that in the absence of a leading investor, the largest investment came from Lightshed Ventures. As a result of the round, the valuation of the venture reached $65 million.
Pebble is developing an app that allows you to earn 5-9% per year from deposits in USDC stablecoin.
“The user deposits dollars into a savings account that Pebble converts to USDC. The coins are then transferred to the credit partners in the form of credits. In return, the startup receives a commission, the amount of which depends on market demand for the asset.”
Pebble’s current loan partners are Vauld and Wyre. The venture’s exchange and deposit partners are Prime Trust and Piermont Bank, respectively.
The Pebble app is currently in closed beta with around 100 people participating. Up to 5,000 users will participate in the test over the next three months.
Pebble will initially only be available to US residents. By the end of the year, the company plans to enter Southeast Asian markets, including Singapore, the Philippines and Indonesia.
The developers aim to provide customers with 5% cashback at more than 50 partner stores such as Uber and Amazon. The startup also announced the launch of a Mastercard debit card with the possibility of accumulating bonus points.
Earlier in May, Blockchain Capital investment fund spearheaded a private funding round for the SO-COL initiative co-founded by cryptocurrency influencer Iren Zhao, according to media reports. In total, the project raised $ 100 million.
