In December 2010, Satoshi Nakamoto decided to disappear. Bitcoin’s anonymous creator stopped operating his wallet. We haven’t heard anything about him since then, and his nickname has become something of a legend in the cryptocurrency industry. But 2024 started with a change. After 13 years, Satoshi Nakamoto’s wallet was reactivated.

Genesis got paid again. It is the name of the first wallet created on the Bitcoin network. The account belongs to Nakamoto, whose identity remains a mystery today.

At 07:52 UTC on January 5, Satoshi’s account woke up with a transfer of almost 27 BTC. Specifically, 26,917 BTC is equivalent to approximately $1.17 million. After being inactive for over a decade, the original Bitcoin account has experienced significant activity again.

Either it was Satoshi or someone was trying to get attention. Conor Grogan, CEO of Coinbase sums it up well: “Either Satoshi woke up, bought 27 Bitcoins from Binance and put them in his wallet, or someone burned a million dollars.” There are few possible explanations for this large-scale movement. Either it is Satoshi himself who wants to deposit more money into his account, or it is the person who wants to attract attention and has given more than a million dollars to the original creator of the cryptocurrency.

Satoshi

Account for the original 50 BTC. The Genesis wallet contains the first 50 Bitcoins mined by Nakamoto himself. There had been no movement since late 2010, but according to Grogan, this could have been a “weird marketing plan”.

The person sending the money to complete this transaction paid more than $100 in fees, slightly above average. It is unknown whether Nakamoto still has access to this account.

You already have 99.67 BTC. Over the years there have been numerous posts increasing the number of bitcoins in the Genesis account. At the end of 2023 there were approximately 72 BTC. With the new transfer, this amount has now reached 99.68 BTC, which is equivalent to approximately 4.3 million dollars.

Satoshi’s net worth is estimated to be much higher. The Genesis account is only original, but the Bitcoin creator’s assets are estimated to be much higher. According to Forbes, Satoshi will hold more than a million bitcoins worth approximately $50 billion. Enough to put him among the 25 richest people in the world. Whether it’s him or someone looking for attention, the creator of the Bitcoin whitepaper has once again got people talking.
