The Belarusian Investigative Committee is already actively confiscating cryptocurrencies. This was stated by the head of the department, Dmitry Gora, in an interview with local media.
According to him, investigators were faced with the need to confiscate crypto assets against the background of their use in various types of crimes:
“What is a cryptocurrency? As my advanced subordinates said – digital garbage. Based on this, I set the task: Our state needs money to compensate for its damage, let’s think about how to make money from garbage. I won’t go into details, but we learned how to do it.”
He noted that both government agencies and commercial organizations are involved in this process.
Gora said that as a result of the ministry’s actions, the UK already has more than one hundred million rubles in “regular money” in its accounts.
Recall that in April, the Ministry of Justice of Belarus determined the procedure for collecting digital funds under enforcement proceedings. The document was adopted to implement the decree establishing a register of bitcoin wallets used in illegal activities.
According to the lawyers, the mechanisms for the confiscation and subsequent sale of digital assets envisioned in the decision are unclear and need to be clarified.
