Tesla CEO Elon Musk has suggested that by 2029, humanity will develop artificial general intelligence (AGI).
Rebooting AI writer and vocal general AI critic Gary Markus offered Musk in an open letter a $100,000 bet on whether AGI will be available by 2029.
He added that the businessman’s comments were useless in the wider discussion of artificial intelligence.
“Musk’s statements about AGI only add to the hype around modern technology, we actually need to take a step back to understand where we are, and we’re facing really tough challenges,” Markus said.
According to him, too much money is invested today “not what is needed”.
“There is a tendency to look at YGZ as ‘something magical’. “This has misled the corporate business community and politicians,” he said.
Musk did not answer the call. Marcus pointed out that there should be a public discussion about whether the money is at stake.
Remember, back in March, Tesla included artificial intelligence in the company’s long-term development plan.
Musk said in January that the automaker could play an important role in creating general AI, as well as preventing a potential revolt of machines against humans.
In April 2021, the businessman said that Tesla will become one of the largest AI companies in the world.
