The Twitter user did not claim that Telegram users had access to 137.21 GB of messages. The reporter’s representatives did not confirm the leak.

The author of the thread, which has garnered more than 3,000 retweets at the time of writing, claims to have used a software exploit to siphon text files from group chats and private messages from members of the cryptocurrency industry.

“A vulnerability discovered in October 2019 allows access to private group chats if the appropriate permissions are not set for them,” said Adyingnobody.

According to him, the messages contain information about fraudulent cryptocurrency projects, sexual violence, pedophilia, contract killings and other compromising details.

The author of the topic promised to release all available data in stages: 15, 30 June and 7 July.

A Telegram spokesperson told The Block that the tweet had “all the hallmarks of a joke” and was likely an attempt to steal seed phrases from users’ cryptocurrency wallets.

Recall that in May, experts discovered that to write Copilot code from OpenAI, the AI assistant could offer private keys from real crypto addresses.
