The Ethereum development team will migrate the Ropsten testnet to the Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus algorithm. According to the project team, less than half an hour is left for the testnet to “merge” with the Beacon Chain signaling network.

As expected, the “merger” will take place in several stages. On May 30, the developers deployed the blockchain consensus layer – Beacon Chain.

On June 2, on slot #24,000, the team activated the Bellatrix update to prepare Beacon Chain for its merger with Ropsten. The developers set the Terminal Total Difficulty (TTD) parameter to 50×10.fifteen.

TTD is the cumulative network complexity up to the requested block. Usually, this parameter is used to exclude unwanted forks – the client is configured to support a branch with a large indicator.

Ropsten’s TTD is over 49×10 at the time of writingfifteen.

It is assumed that the merging process will begin after the network reaches this mark. The next block can only be mined by the Beacon Chain validator. After the publication of this block, the transition is considered complete.

Goerli and Sepoila testnets will be transferred to the PoS algorithm after the transaction is completed in Ropsten. This will take several weeks.

Recall, in May 2022, one of the leading developers Preston Van Loon announced that the transition of Ethereum to the PoS algorithm would take place in August.
