MicroBT introduced the Whatsminer M50 series of Bitcoin ASIC miners at the Bitcoin 2022 conference in Miami. This was reported to ForkLog by project representatives.
The M50S, M50 and M53 devices are equipped with 5nm chips from Samsung Corporation. According to the statement, their efficiency is 15% higher than the miners of the old M30 series, which the company launched in 2020.
Deliveries of the new models will start at 30,000 units per month in the third quarter of 2022. Miners are available to order.
The flagship air-cooled Whatsminer M50S offers a hashrate of 126 TH/s at an energy efficiency of 26 J/TH (3276 W power consumption).
Data: MicroCT.
The declared indicators of Whatsminer M50 are 114 TH / h and 29 J / TH, respectively.
The M53 is liquid cooled. The bitcoin miner hash rate is 240 TH/s while consuming 29 J/TH.

In September 2020, industry journalist Colin Wu announced the launch of the MicroBT M50 series in the coming months. According to him, the company aimed to continue using Samsung 8nm chips in miners, but to achieve energy efficiency of around 30 J/TH, outpacing devices from Bitmain.
At that time, it used 7nm technology processors from market leader TSCM. It was only in November 2021 that Bitmain debuted the Antminer S19 XP, a model based on 5nm chips.
In March 2022, the manufacturer introduced the liquid-cooled Antminer S19 XP Hyd. The device provides a hash rate of 255 TH/s with a yield of 20.8 J/TH.
Recall that the American company Intel demonstrated its first chip for bitcoin mining in February. The declared characteristics of the prototype miner based on the Bonanza Mine were significantly inferior to the flagships of Bitmain and MicroBT.
Already in March, Intel announced the release of the second generation of the mining chip. According to the announcement, Blockscale will provide an energy efficiency of around 26 J/TH.
