RTM Group researchers have calculated that 1,531 lawsuits related to cryptocurrencies, exchanges and mining were initiated in Russia last year. Izvestia writes about this.
Most of the cases (954) in 2021 were initiated under criminal clauses. This figure is 40% higher than the previous year’s data.
Most often, cryptocurrencies appear in criminal cases related to drug trafficking. Other similar transactions involving cryptoassets include money laundering and illegal gambling organizations.
The other quarter cases are civil cases, 9% bankruptcy, 5% administrative cases.
Among civil law disputes, claims of recovering unjust enrichment when purchasing cryptocurrencies are most common.
RTM Group also noted that last year residents of the Russian Federation paid 61.5 million rubles in nine cases not calculated for the use of electricity for mining.
Recall that in April, the head of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia Igor Krasnov announced that digital currencies should be included in the criminal law in order to investigate cases of theft and the possibility of arrest.
The Legislative Assembly of the Russian Federation proposed strengthening the responsibility for crimes using cryptocurrencies.
