The European Commission will update rules that require companies like Meta, Twitter and Google to remove deep frauds, misinformation and fake accounts. Reuters writes about it.
On 16 June 2022, the European Commission plans to submit an updated code to combat disinformation. According to the document, tech giants will need to develop tools to verify information and collaborate with fact-checking organizations.
Firms will need to report on remote bots, the number of moderators in each country, and the artificial intelligence systems used to fight fraud.
According to media reports, more than 30 companies will sign the updated version of the code, including Meta, Twitter, Google, Microsoft and TikTok. They will have to publish reports on each EU country, not pan-European or world statistics.
Companies can be fined up to 6% of their annual turnover for breaking the rules.
Recall that in April the EU agreed on the Digital Services Act, which increases the responsibility of tech giants for recommendation algorithms and targeted advertising.
In the same month, Elon Musk supported the project of organizing social networks.
