According to Bloomberg, Microsoft founder Bill Gates described immutable tokens as a “bigger stupid” scam.
During a conference hosted by TechCrunch in California, the billionaire joked:
“Obviously, expensive digital images of monkeys improve the world immensely.”
He added that he has no position in this asset class.
Presumably in the quote, Gates was referring to the Yuga Labs team’s popular Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT collection.

Earlier, Gates urged potential investors not to follow the example of Tesla, which invested $1.5 billion in Bitcoin. He also pointed out the negative impact of mining the first cryptocurrency on climate change.
Gates attended the event as the founder of climate fund Breakthrough Energy Ventures. He noted the difficulty of recruiting specialists from Silicon Valley to work in industries that need to reduce carbon emissions, such as the chemical and steel industries.
The billionaire also described the digital banking he supports through his charitable foundations as “hundreds of times more efficient” than cryptocurrencies.
Recall that in May Gates said that he did not invest in digital assets because they had no value.
