Ukraine received observer status within the European Blockchain Partnership (EBP). Alexander Bornyakov, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Digital Development for IT Development, became the representative of the country.
Ukraine’s accession is expected to facilitate the integration of the country and the EU’s digital economic space.
Bornyakov said that this will intensify work on the implementation of blockchain in government records and services, and also contribute to creating a “highly effective regulatory environment” for the virtual asset market.
The attempt to make Ukraine join the EBP was made by Konstantin Yarmolenko, Director-General of the public association “Virtual Assets of Ukraine”, and the cross-group deputies’ association Blockchain4Ukraine Oleksiy Zhmerenetsky.
They appealed to representatives of EU institutional bodies, including the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, with a request to include Ukraine in the full membership of the EBP. In a response letter, the head of the European Commission confirmed the possibility of Ukraine joining the partnership with observer status.
Previously, the association “Virtual Assets of Ukraine” and the association Blockchain4Ukraine appealed to EU representatives to create a unified infrastructure of blockchain services.
