Iranian authorities have warned local miners of a temporary power outage. Reported by Tehran Times.

According to the publication, at the time of writing, there are 118 companies associated with cryptocurrency mining in the country. They should be offline from next month on the Iranian calendar starting June 22.

Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Energy, said the restrictions were driven by increased consumption – a record 62,500 MW was set last week. According to the estimates of the authorities, this figure will reach 63,000 MW in the near future.

This is not the first time Iran has imposed restrictions on miners. At the end of May 2021, President Hassan Rouhani announced that he was temporarily banning cryptocurrency mining due to electricity shortages. Licensed businesses were allowed to resume business in the fall.

At the end of the year, the state-owned energy conglomerate Tazeir took similar measures due to increased winter consumption.

In April 2022, authorities increased the penalties for illegally mining cryptocurrencies using subsidized electricity and imposed prison sentences for repeat offenders.

Recall that elliptical analysts said that the cryptocurrency allows Iran to bypass sanctions and buy imported goods.
