Non-tradable tokens (NFTs) can be used to fund films that will “bring more democracy to filmmaking”. This view was expressed by director Spike Lee, writes The Block.
During the NFT conference in New York, he emphasized that his view on the potential use of tokens was based on his own experience. Lee reminded that those who supported his films in the 1980s still benefited from the investment.
But the executive acknowledged the risks in the segment:
“Whatever you do, you have to do your research. Don’t bet on the house.”
He also hinted that some NFT projects will be released soon, without revealing the details.
Spike Lee rose to prominence with the movie She Needs It Badly (1986). Among his works are: “Do the right thing!”, “Not caught – not a thief” and “Man of the Dark Clan”. The latter brought the director an Oscar.
Previously, director Quentin Tarantino sold an uncorked Royale with Cheese token based on the Pulp Fiction movie for $1.1 million. The auction continued despite Miramax’s claims of unfair competition, breach of contract, and copyright.
Recall that Microsoft founder Bill Gates questioned the value of NFTs and called them a scam “based on the bigger fool theory”.
