In pursuit of our mission to unlock universal ownership and exchange, we are excited to share what we have achieved. @geniexyz — first NFT marketplace aggregator — expanding our products to include both ERC-20s and NFTs 🧞♂️ pic.twitter.com/vESlbE3kvy
“NFTs will be implemented in our products starting with the Uniswap web app, where you will soon be able to buy and sell non-tradable tokens in all major markets. We’re also integrating NFT into our developer APIs and widgets,” the company said in a blog post.
Support for the new options is scheduled for this fall.
“We see NFT as another value format in the growing digital economy,” the developers said.
To them, free tokens are a kind of gateway to Web3.
Genie users will have access to the market until NFT is fully integrated by the exchange.
As part of the agreement, Uniswap will airdrop USDC stablecoin in August to Genie users and GENIE:GEM NFT holders who have used the platform multiple times before April 15th.
The leading exchange has been experimenting with NFTs for a long time: in the spring of 2019, Uniswap launched Unisocks tokens as a joke. Amid the excitement in the segment, the price of SOCKS reached $92,500 in early 2021. In May of the same year, an unknown person sold Unisocks for $875,000 for nine pairs of socks.
As a reminder, the volume of deals made on Uniswap has exceeded $1 trillion since its launch in 2018.
