The developers have delayed the activation of the Vasil hard fork on the Cardano network, which was previously scheduled for June 29. This was announced by Nigel Hemsley, head of product integration Input Output Global (IOG).

Vasil is scheduled to launch on the testnet on June 20. According to him, the IOG engineering team did not have time to resolve all the technical issues, even though they were “very close to completing the job.” Hemsley said none of the remaining seven errors were serious.

The IOG developers, together with the Cardano Foundation, will set the new date for testing the hard fork based on three main criteria:

  • absence of critical problems;
  • acceptable cost and performance indicators;
  • appropriately inform the community (including changes and projects) dapps) about the update.

The testnet release of the hard fork is tentatively scheduled for the end of June. The mainnet upgrade is scheduled for the last week of July.

“Working on Vasil has been the most challenging development and integration program to date. “This is a complex process that requires not only significant efforts from working groups, but also close coordination across the ecosystem.”

The hard fork includes four suggestions for improving Cardano. The implementation of Vasil is expected to increase network throughput, reduce transaction costs and improve blockchain security. The update will also make it easier to interact with Plutus smart contracts.

Recall that in early June, developers noted an increase in transaction activity on the Cardano network amid expectations for Vasil activation.
