US online marketplace eBay has acquired UK-based non-tradable token (NFT) platform KnownOrigin. Details and amount of the deal were not disclosed.

“During the meetings [eBay] We were impressed by their willingness to learn, accept and dive into Web3. […] NFTs are fast becoming the future of the creative industry, and our technical innovation combined with the eBay brand and community will give us a great opportunity to play a meaningful and continuing role in the evolution of the space,” KnownOrigin said.

The parties signed the contract on 21 June.

In the spring of 2021, eBay allowed users to trade NFTs. Prior to that, the company’s president, Jamie Iannone, said that the site is considering accepting payments in cryptocurrencies.

In May 2022, eBay launched a non-tradable token collection in partnership with OneOf.

Recall that on June 21, Uniswap Labs announced the acquisition of a marketplace aggregator of immutable Genie tokens.

Solana-based, non-tradable token marketplace Magic Eden previously raised $130 million from Electric Capital and Greylock Partners.
