The creators of the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFT collection have filed a lawsuit against artist Ryder Ripps. Yuga Labs accused him of issuing and selling “fake” tokens that devalue the original works.

“We have brought lawsuits against those responsible to put an end to the continued violations and other unlawful attempts against us and the BAYC community. “We will continue to explore and use all legal options at our disposal,” he said.

Twitter account The Bored Ape Gazette published the full version of the document. In an attempt to “devalue” the NFT collection, Ripps “flooded the market with counterfeit tokens, using original Bored Ape Yacht Club images and calling them RR/BAYC,” according to the lawsuit.

Yuga Labs hopes to reach a resolution that will ban Ripps and its partners from “further interference in their potential economic dealings.” The company is also seeking compensation and legal costs.

In January 2022, Ripps published an article describing the BAYC collection as “racist” and accusing its creators of using Nazi symbols. For example, he noted that the logo of the line looks something like this. “Dead Head”.

In June, YouTuber Philion shared a similar view. According to him, NFTs from Yuga Labs include racist caricatures of blacks and Asians, and the collection’s symbolism and language “similar to what the Nazis used.”

On June 24, the founders of Yuga Labs responded to Ripps and Philion’s claims. In a published statement, the team described the claims as “far off.”

“We have been the target of a frenzied disinformation campaign accusing us—a group of our Jewish, Turkish, Pakistani, and Cuban friends—of being super-secret Nazis. […] Trolls continue to spread ridiculous conspiracy theories on the Internet and use it to sell fake NFTs,” the developers wrote.

Recall that Eminem and Snoop Dogg previously released a video in collaboration with the BAYC collection. In the From The D 2 The LBC video, the artists appeared as animated monkeys.
