A hurricane that hit Montana on June 11 damaged a power plant in Hardin that powered 30,000 miners at Marathon Digital Holdings.

According to the statement, this hardware accounts for more than 75% of the firm’s active mining capacity.

The devices are expected to continue operating at low power during the first week of July. Most of the miners were unaffected, according to the company.

Marathon said that after the hurricane, damage assessment of the cooling towers damaged at the power plant continues.

The remaining active bitcoin mining capacity of 0.6 EH/s has been translated from its own MaraPool pool to a third-party pool to increase the probability of receiving rewards.

ā€œA severe storm in Montana unexpectedly lowered our hash rate in June, presenting us with a new challenge that we are actively working to overcome. ā€œThe full return of miners to the online environment will take time, and we are committed to doing everything possible to restore and improve bitcoin production,ā€ said Fred Thiel, CEO of Marathon.

In April, the company announced the move of miners from the Hardin plant to more sustainable energy sources to achieve carbon neutrality. It was supposed to be in the third quarter. Now Marathon is considering the possibility of speeding up the relocation from Montana.

The company said that amid problems at Hardin, equipment distribution in Texas continues as planned.

Recall that Marathon recorded a loss of $13 million in the first quarter of 2022.

In April, analysts at Arcane Research ranked the company’s stock as the most overvalued among public mining companies, based on a metric they developed.
