Unidentified individuals hacked the UK Army’s Twitter and YouTube accounts and used them to support a cryptocurrency-related scam. The country’s Ministry of Defense confirmed the attack.

On the British Army Twitter account, the attackers announced the distribution of NFTs. Fixed link in description led to a bogus site, writes The Verge.

Hackers also took over the British Army’s YouTube channel. The name was changed to Ark Invest, all previous videos were removed, and it started several “live streams” with entrepreneurs and old recordings, Elon Musk and Jack Dorsey. During the video, viewers were encouraged to invest in fake crypto projects with the help of additional text.

At the time of writing, the British Army has regained access to its Twitter and YouTube accounts. An investigation is underway.

Recall that in February, YouTube viewers lost $ 1.6 million in cryptocurrencies in three days on fake broadcasts. The attackers edited videos from old conversations by famous representatives of the bitcoin community and entrepreneurs.

In 2020, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak sued video hosting for fake bitcoin giveaways on his behalf, but lost the case.

A deepfake circulated on Twitter by Elon Musk in May 2022, in which he “urged” to “invest” in a scam project.
