DeFi platform WonderFi Technologies, backed by TV star Kevin O’Leary, has acquired Canadian cryptocurrency exchange Coinberry. This is stated in the press release.
“This acquisition further solidifies WonderFi as a leading cryptocurrency company in Canada and […] “It lays the perfect foundation for us to expand into global markets,” said Ben Samar, WonderFi CEO.
According to CoinDesk, the deal was worth $30 million.
The company announced the takeover a week after it announced it was listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
Previously, the DeFi platform had reduced staff by 20%. Similar measures were taken by Bitbuy crypto exchange, which WonderFi acquired in January. According to media reports, layoffs are determined by cost optimization.
Recall that in August 2021 Coinberry became one of the regulated crypto exchanges, which was banned by the Ontario Securities Commission from working with the USDT stablecoin from Tether.
