Mojang Studios, the studio behind Minecraft, said it “does not support or allow” the integration of blockchain technology and NFT into the game.

According to the developers, collectible game items on the blockchain create “scarcity and exclusivity”, which goes against Minecraft principles. The team noted that they are trying to provide the same content to all players regardless of the server used.

“The speculative pricing and investment mentality around NFTs distracts from the game and promotes profit-making, which we believe is inconsistent with the long-term comfort and success of our players,” the developers said.

They also highlighted the risks of fraud and potential loss of funds associated with NFTs.

“In order to provide players with a secure and inclusive experience, blockchain technology is not allowed to be integrated into Minecraft client and server applications. It also cannot be used to create NFTs associated with any in-game content, including worlds, skins, character items, or other mods.”

At the same time, the developers promised to follow the development of the technology, assuming that over time the above principles will be achieved.

“However, we currently have no plans to implement blockchain in Minecraft,” they concluded.

Recall that in January 2022, the French game giant Ubisoft’s attempt to launch the Quartz NFT platform faced a negative reaction from users.

The leadership of Japanese studio PlatinumGames has spoken out against the entry of digital property into the industry. His compatriots at Square Enix, by contrast, have expressed their interest in blockchain and NFT.
