Tim Sweeney, head of the Epic Games Store, said the digital video game store does not plan to abandon projects using non-tradable tokens (NFTs).

In response to a Twitter user’s call to “get rid of every game in the store,” Sweeney clarified the company’s position.

“Developers should be able to decide how to build their games, and you should be free to decide whether or not to play them. I believe that the creators of stores and operating systems should not interfere by imposing their views. We certainly will not,” he wrote.

The Epic Games Store CEO spoke after Mojang Studios, behind the development of Minecraft, said they “do not support or allow” the integration of blockchain technology and NFT into the game.

Recall that in October 2021, the developer company Valve Corporation banned the placement of blockchain games with cryptocurrencies or NFTs on the Steam store. Then Epic Games Store declared “openness” for such projects.

In January 2022, French game giant Ubisoft received backlash from users for its attempt to launch an NFT platform called Quartz.

In April 2022, Epic Games closed a $2 billion investment round and funds will be directed to projects in the metaverse space.
