Bitfinex, Tether, and Hypercore launched the Holepunch platform to build fully encrypted P2P applications, and introduced the first of these, Keet video calling software.
“The free app uses peer-to-peer connections to provide real-time audio and video calls, chat, and file sharing. It is based on an innovative distributed technology stack,” he said.
Keet gives users full control over their data and communication channels without resorting to cloud software or external servers as intermediaries. Direct connection uses a pair of encryption keys for security.
“Web2 requires users to give up control over their data, leading to increased monopolies and increased privacy concerns. That’s why Tether and Bitfinex decided to participate in the development of Holepunch and Keet. We believe freedom of choice, communication and financial freedom is the lifeblood of the future, and anything that empowers them deserves support,” said Paolo Ardoino, CTO of the companies.
The Holepunch protocol is in alpha testing and is closed source. Developers are expected to unlock it by the end of 2022.
According to the statement, the platform does not rely on any blockchain, but on an embedded payment. API It will work with the Lightning Network. Holepunch also supports USDT stablecoin app integration by default.
Bitfinex and Tether funded the project, while Ardoino became the joint venture’s strategy director.
Recall that in 2020 Bitfinex launched Dazaar P2P marketplace and Dazaar Live decentralized streaming service based on Hypercore protocol.
