Crypto lending platform Celsius Network has suffered a data breach due to the compromise of its Customer.io email service. The Block, the company announced this in an email.
Celsius does not believe the leak poses high risks to users. At the same time, the company noted that the incident was “a serious breach of relations between the supplier and the customer” and contacted the relevant authorities.
Celsius initially assured the Customer.io crypto lending platform that user data was not affected. However, later the service still confirmed that emails from Celsius customers were leaked.
The latter claims to delete all data transferred to Customer.io immediately after the event was reported.
Experts have warned that as a result of the leak, Celsius users could face a wave of phishing attacks.
Recall that the hacking of Customer.io was due to an abuse of access to information by one of the employees. As a result, NFT marketplace OpenSea reported that user data has been leaked.
Customer.io said that in addition to OpenSea, five more of the company’s customers were affected. The service did not disclose their names.
In mid-July, Celsius filed for bankruptcy. Later, the company’s president, Alex Mashinsky, said that as of July 13, the company has $4.3 billion in assets, and its debts to customers and creditors are $5.5 billion.
The crypto lending platform has announced a business reorganization plan focused on a mining subsidiary. The profits from Bitcoin mining are planned to be used to compensate users for losses and pay creditors.
