The Brazilian branch of Bank Santander will open the possibility of trading digital assets for customers “in the coming months”. This was stated by CEO Mario Liav in an interview with Folha de S. Paulo.

The top executive promised to provide additional details before or after the next quarterly report is published.

On July 14, Itau Unibanco Holding, the country’s largest bank, did not rule out the possibility of buying/selling digital assets for retail customers in the future. In the first phase, the institution will offer tokenization services for companies.

Earlier, Nubank, Brazil’s largest neobank, announced a partnership with Paxos. Thanks to the collaboration, its 50 million customers have gained access to cryptocurrencies.

In August 2021, Roberto Campos Neto, president of the Central Bank of Brazil, spoke in favor of establishing a regulatory framework for the sector.

The country has become the second country in the world to register a bitcoin ETF.

Recall that in March 2022, Santander launched a lending program based on tokenized agricultural commodities for local farmers in Argentina.
