In July, the number of registrations in the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) domain name system increased by 378 thousand to 1.87 million, while other metrics of the service showed a record increase.

ENS Domains earned 5400 ETH (~$8.8 million) behind the development of the project. Sales volume almost doubled compared to June.

The number of owners of at least one ENS domain name has exceeded 48,000.

User activity is intensifying as the transition to the Proof-of-Stake consensus algorithm approaches as part of The Merge update (expected September 19).

Corey Whittaker, CEO of True Names Limited behind ENS Domains, told Decrypt that the increase in activity is also due to the strengthening of the ecosystem. He says members create communities and share information about ENS use cases.

Among other factors, the expert cited the fall in gas prices and the growing popularity of the service among non-English speaking users, primarily Spanish and Arabic speakers.

Recall that in July developers introduced encapsulated ENS domains with extended functionality.

Earlier, British actor Anthony Hopkins changed his Twitter username to his own domain in ENS.
