Trend Micro experts said that the development of metaverses will lead to the spread of traditional cyber threats in them and the emergence of new ones.

In a new report, experts predicted five main threats to virtual worlds:

• widespread NFTs will be vulnerable to phishing, extortion and other targeted attacks as they become an important commodity for property rights regulation;
• By analogy with the darknet, the Darkverse domain will emerge as a place for illegal activities, making it extremely difficult for law enforcement to monitor, control or penetrate for technological reasons;
• the purchase of overvalued NFTs and real estate in the metadata will provide attackers with a new channel for money laundering;
• criminals and statesmen will use social engineering, propaganda and fake news to influence vulnerable groups for their own ends;
• There will be serious privacy concerns as metastore operators will have unprecedented access to user data and activity.

“The Metaverse is a multi-billion dollar high-tech concept that will define the new age of the Internet. While we don’t know exactly how it will evolve, we should start thinking now about how it will be used by attackers. Trend Micro Vice President Bill Malik said: It will be difficult for law enforcement officers to maintain security in their first years as a business,” he said.

Recall that analysts at Citibank, the largest international bank, predicted that the metaverse economy will grow to $13 trillion by 2030.
