Automaker Hyundai has announced the creation of the Boston Dynamics AI Institute Foundation to advance research in artificial intelligence and robotics.
The organization will be led by Boston Dynamics founder Mark Raibert, who stepped down as CEO at the end of 2019. The Institute will be headquartered in Cambridge (Massachusetts, USA).
“Our mission is to create the next generation of advanced robots and intelligent machines that are smarter, more flexible, more insightful and safer than anything in existence today,” said Raibert.
The institute said it will focus on creating robots that can perform a wide variety of tasks, are easier to use and more productive.
Planning to invest approximately $400 million in the organization, Hyundai noted that they are actively recruiting researchers and engineers to join the team in Cambridge.
Recall that in May, Hyundai announced that it plans to invest $ 5 billion in the development of artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles and robotics.
In June 2021, the automaker bought an 80% stake in Boston Dynamics for $1.1 billion.
