The list of cryptocurrency mixer Tornado Cash is unique and threatens privacy and innovation. This was stated by Tom Emmer, a member of the US House of Representatives, in an interview with CoinDesk.
The legislator doubted its veracity OFAC.
“This is an unprecedented change in sanctions policy. OFAC’s priority is to protect national security. Congress may ask the agency to reiterate its position that sanctioned addresses are controlled by humans, not code. It should also be explored what this means for privacy and innovation rights.” said.
According to Emmer, the sanctions against Tornado Cash have sparked internal debate over oversight of the industry. He told his colleagues that he doubted the quality of this work done by the departments.
When it comes to digital assets, Emmer said, it should be left to Congress to determine “what fits the definition of cash, commodities and/or securities” and which agency should be responsible for regulating each of them.
Congressman criticizes policy again SEC. He noted that the commission was acting as a “blackmail body”.
Emmer predicted that there will be no changes in cryptocurrency legislation for the remaining 28 days of Congress this year. He described it as “likely” that there would be regulatory clarity in the future.
Recall that Kraken CEO Jess Powell described the sanctions against Tornado Cash as “unconstitutional”.
Earlier, members of the decentralized autonomous organization Tornado DAO urged the community to hire a team of lawyers to challenge the denial of service in court.
Later, Coin Center, a human rights organization focused on the crypto industry, announced its intention to challenge the restrictions imposed by the United States.
