Russian Denis Dubnikov, accused of laundering Ryuk ransomware operators, has been extradited from the Netherlands to the United States. This was reported by the US Department of Justice.

According to court documents, at least $70 million in illegal funds passed through the Coyote Crypto and EggChange bitcoin exchanges founded by Dubnikov. The Russian is accused of laundering more than $400,000 directly through cryptocurrencies in July 2019.

The defendant will appear in court in Portland on October 4. He faces up to 20 years in prison.

Recall that on November 2, 2021, Denis Dubnikov was detained in the Netherlands at the request of the FBI.

Three well-informed sources confirmed to Bloomberg information about the ongoing investigation into the EggChange heat exchanger in the US and Europe.

Since 2018, the creators of the Ryuk ransomware have attacked at least 235 hospitals and psychiatric hospitals in the US and demanded ransom for file recovery.

In 2020 alone, hackers received nearly $150 million worth of cryptocurrency. The group has withdrawn more than $1 million of that amount through the Binance exchange.
