Leading unattended exchange Uniswap has blocked 253 front-end addresses linked to activities on its criminal and sanctioned mixing platform Tornado Cash.

The addresses were blacklisted for four months with the help of analytics firm TRM Labs. Uniswap Labs has disclosed data on this type of blocking for the first time.

Developer Jordan Frankfurt noted in comments on GitHub that even addresses that are only indirectly related to sanction objects are initially blocked. The change then narrowed the sample down a bit. Addresses on the sanctions lists and those directly related to the activities of intruders are now subject to blocking.

TRM Labs checks for suspicious addresses and classifies them into several categories. The main ones are:

  • stolen funds;
  • Regarding the Tornado Cash mixer;
  • confirmed addresses;
  • related to fraudulent projects;
  • included by well-known hacker groups;
  • used to finance terrorism;
  • involved in the distribution of child pornography.

Banteg developer counted 30 addresses in ENS format in the list. He suggested that most of them belong to ordinary users who do not engage in illegal activities.

Uniswap Labs began blocking front-end-level addresses in April.

Recall that TRM Labs analysts described the sanctions against Tornado Cash as a challenge for compliance.
