In a letter to US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, Tom Emmer requested clarification regarding the sanctions imposed on the Tornado Cash mixer.
“The increasing adoption of decentralized technologies is certainly OFAC new missions. However, the technology is neutral and so is the expectation of privacy,” the congressman wrote.
According to him, sanctions against mixer are unique in that they apply to a privacy code and not an individual or legal entity.
“The backend will continue to work as an anonymization technology as long as the Ethereum network is up and running. Who or what entity is responsible for maintaining control over Tornado Cash blockchain contracts, according to OFAC?” ‘ asked Emma.
Earlier, members of the decentralized autonomous organization Tornado DAO called for the community to hire a team of lawyers to appeal the blocking of service.
Later, Coin Center, a human rights organization focused on the crypto industry, announced its intention to challenge the restrictions imposed by the United States.
Recall that Tom Emmer recently called for unprecedented sanctions against Tornado Cash that threaten privacy and innovation.
A similar view was expressed by Kraken CEO Jess Powell.
