Auction house Sotheby’s has recruited non-exchangeable token (NFT) expert Brian Beccafico to join the digital arts team.
Beccafico is a collector and is known on Twitter under the pseudonym Arthemort. In an interview, Beeple stated that it purchased works by Pak, Fewocious, and artist Mike Winkelman, known under the pseudonyms XCOPY.
Representatives of the auction house confirmed in a comment to The Block that the expert was part of their team.
In the spring of 2021, Sotheby’s sold NFT CryptoPunk #7523, also known as COVID Alien, for 4520 ETH ($11.8 million at the time of the deal).
In September, the auction house sold 107 NFTs from Yuga Labs’ Bored Ape Yacht Club collection for $24.4 million. The final price was well above the $18 million maximum estimate.
Recall that in February 2022, Sotheby’s announced that it was trading a number of non-tradable tokens from its CryptoPunks collection. However, the seller withdrew the item from the auction at the last moment.
