Cardano developers are doing “extensive testing” of the Vasil update. Project founder Charles Hoskinson said the hard fork is scheduled to be activated “sometime in September”.

According to him, the team found a number of bugs in the code that needed to be fixed. Hoskinson emphasized that the specific activation conditions depend, among other things, on the actions of the trading platforms.

ā€œThe next important step will be to attract cryptocurrency exchanges. […] ā€œA hard fork date will be set when the three to five largest platforms update their systems.ā€

The founder of the project stated that the support of major players will “force” the rest of the market participants to agree to the update.

Vasil includes four recommendations to improve the Cardano network, focused on lowering transaction fees and increasing network security. The update will also facilitate interaction with smart contracts.

Initially the hard fork was scheduled to be activated at the end of June 2022, but then the date was pushed back to the next month.

In July, Cardano developers enabled the update on the testnet.

Recall that in the same month, the project team postponed the hard fork date once again. The step was announced with a desire to make sure all parties to the process were ready for the upgrade.
