The round was led by Sony Corporation, which provided $1 billion in funding, while the other investor was KIRKBI, owner of LEGO. Epic Games plans to develop services for games in virtual reality with these companies.
“We are reimagining the future of entertainment and need partners to share our vision. Our company found them at Sony and KIRKBI. “Their funding will accelerate our efforts to create a metaverse and create spaces where gamers can have fun with their friends,” said Tim Sweeney, CEO and founder of Epic Games. .
Epic Games noted that the company’s valuation could rise to $31.5 billion as a result of the investments received.
A few days ago, the game developer also announced a collaboration with LEGO. Its goal is to make metaverses “safe and fun for kids and families” and to provide them with an “immersive, inspiring and engaging” experience.
At the end of March, Epic Games, together with Microsoft, had raised more than $50 million in humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
