The developers from IOHK have announced the activation date of the Vasil hard fork on the Cardano mainnet as September 22.

Vasil is Cardano’s biggest update that should increase network bandwidth, lower transaction costs and improve security.

The hard fork will also add new features to the Plutus system for app developers.

The team expects a smooth technical transition with no downtime or interruption to hinder production. Users do not need to take any action.

The update is named after the late Cardano Ambassador, who planted more than 10,000 trees in his lifetime.

To enable the update, 25 cryptocurrency exchanges, which provide about 80% of ADA liquidity, also need to update their systems. Also, 75% of the blocks need to be created by nodes with updated software.

Initially, Vasil was scheduled to be activated at the end of June 2022, but the date has been pushed back to the next month. In July, the developers updated the testnet and delayed the hard fork again.

Recall that Cardano is ranked 26th out of 600 global brands in the rating of consumers’ emotional engagement from the MBLM agency. Bitcoin was in 30th place, Uniswap and Solana – 261 and 265 respectively.
