Mobile game developer Limit Break raises $200M

Limit Break has raised $200 million in two funding rounds. The team plans to incorporate Web3 elements into its Free-to-Play (F2P) multiplayer online games model for mobile devices.

The investment rounds were led by Paradigm, Standard Crypto and Mino Games CEO Josh Buckley. Funding was also provided by FTX, Coinbase and Positive Sum.

The startup plans to turn F2P into a Free-to-Own model with the help of Web3. It assumes the possibility of free release by Genesis-NFT users.

Limit Break was founded by former Machine Zone CEOs and CTOs Gabriel Leydon and Halbert Nakagawa. The studio is known for bestsellers such as Game of War, Mobile Strike, and Final Fantasy: XV.

Media: Animoca Brands raises $100M from Temasek

Blockchain gaming operator Animoca Brands has raised $100 million in convertible bonds to be acquired by Singapore-owned firm Temasek, according to Bloomberg sources.

The parties declined to comment on the agency’s information.

The Hong Kong-based firm is the publisher of a number of games such as The Sandbox, Crazy Kings and Crazy Defense Heroes, as well as intellectual property-based digital products.

Metaverse avatar platform Wolf3D raises $56 million from a16z

Wolf3D, the startup behind the Ready Player Me platform, has closed its $56 million Series B funding round.

Managed by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) with contributions from Konvoy Ventures, Collab Currency, Plural Platform, Hartbeat Ventures, Roblox co-founder David Baszuki and Twitch co-founder Justin Kahn.

By the end of 2022, the startup expects to double the number of specialists – from 50 to 100.

Wolf3D is known for creating avatar systems for Tencent, Wargaming, Huawei, Verizon and HTC.

To create Ready Player Me’s database of faces, the firm scanned more than 20,000 people using nearly 100 cameras.

Users can create free avatars on the platform, and developers can integrate Ready Player Me into apps and get ready-to-use enhancements for free. 3252 startup clients include VRChat, Spatial, Hiber, Pixelynx, Adidas, RTFKT and Dior.

Japanese subsidiary of Animoca Brands raises $45 million at $500 million valuation

Animoca Brands Japan has raised $45 million from its parent company and one of the country’s oldest banks, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Inc.

The firm’s preliminary valuation was $500 million, and the fund is reportedly split equally between the two investors.

The funds raised are used to license “popular intellectual property objects”, develop internal capabilities, and promote Web3.

Web3 game developer Xterio raises $40M

Switzerland-based Web3 game publisher Xterio has raised $40 million with FunPlus, Makers Fund, FTX Ventures and XPLA leading the funding round.

Animoca Brands, HashKey, Foresight Ventures, Infinity Ventures Crypto, and Matrix Partners also joined in. The model was used to raise funds SHAFT.

Xterio co-founder Jeremy Horn said the valuation of the venture has reached $300 million.

Proceeds will be used to develop mobile and browser-based Web3 games and hire staff. Xterio now has 60 employees, including former executives of Electronic Arts, Activision Blizzard, Krafton and FunPlus.

Web3 Developer Platform Thirdweb Raises $24M

The team behind web3 developer platform Thirdweb has closed a $24 million Series A funding round at a $160 million valuation led by former a16z partner Kathy Haun, Haun Ventures.

Investments were also provided by Coinbase Ventures, Shopify, Protocol Labs, Shrug VC and Kleiner Perkins partner Joseph Leykob.

The funds raised will be used to recruit experts and integrate Cosmos, Near, Flow and Solana in addition to Ethereum, Avalanche and Fantom.

Thirdweb offers audited smart contracts that allow you to build and securely deploy decentralized applications as well as manage related analytics.

According to the company, more than 55,000 developers have used their tools to create apps in the past nine months.

Web3 rival Twitch raises $12.9 million from Pantera Capital

Decentralized video streaming service Stacked has raised $12.9 million in its Series A funding round.

By Pantera Capital with the participation of the GFR Fund and parent company Yahoo! Japan.

The startup aims to offer a decentralized alternative to Alphabet’s YouTube and Amazon’s Twitch. The team aims to give creators most of the revenue, as well as secure ownership of the platform through a governance token. An asset can be earned in the service.

Proceeds will go to marketing, content acquisition, personnel and business expansion in Latin America, India and Southeast Asia.

Galaxy Digital and Genesis top executives to launch a $500 million crypto fund

A group of executives from Galaxy Digital, Genesis and Convex Trading have filed a $500 million DBA Crypto Fund I LP application with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

The company has not yet raised funds.

The overall partners of the structure are Michael Jordan, Co-President of Galaxy Digital Investments, Joshua Lim, Head of Genesis Derivatives, Roshun Patel, former Vice President of Trade at Genesis, and Shane Barratt, CEO and Co-Founder of Convex Trading.

Axios noted that the fund will be led by experts from companies affected by the collapse of Terra and the problems of hedge fund Three Arrows Capital.
