According to the US Department of Justice, Joshua Nicholas, the “chief trader” of the EmpiresX cryptocurrency pyramid, has been found guilty of conspiracy to commit a $100 million securities scam.

According to court documents, Nicholas and his associates backed an investment scheme that allegedly guaranteed high returns using a proprietary trading bot based on artificial intelligence and human intelligence.

In fact, the first investors were paid by new victims of the scam.

The pyramid was actively promoted on Instagram.

“EmpiresX has never recorded its investment program as offering and selling securities. SECThe Ministry of Justice has been exempted from the registration requirement.”

Nicholas faces five years in prison. A penalty date has not yet been set.

Recall that in August the Ohio District Court took a case against a local resident accused of organizing a financial pyramid with more than $12 million in cash and bitcoin losses.
