True Names, operator of the distributed domain name system Ethereum Name Service (ENS), is suing GoDaddy, Dynadot, and DeFi company Manifold Finance.
The complaint was also made on behalf of the imprisoned Ethereum developer Nigel Griffith. The plaintiffs accused GoDaddy of violating an agreement to “respect, recognize and protect” the eth.link domain name.
According to the document, True Names sought $75,000 in damages.
On August 25, domain registrar GoDaddy announced that eth.link will expire on September 5. The company transferred the space to the Dynadot registry, which sold it via an auction.
On September 3, DeFi company Manifold Finance confirmed the acquisition of eth.link. According to Domain Name Wire, the deal was worth $851,919.
“We just got Eth.link. Services will be restored once the ownership transfer is complete,” he said.

The lead developer of ENS, under the nickname Nick.eth, was surprised by the fact of the sale, saying that the domain registration has not yet expired. But Manifold Finance said it used “false information”.
In a comment for Decrypt, the developer stated that GoDaddy has promised to return the domain name to a public registry with the possibility of recovery.
We are disappointed with their actions and feel misled by the fact that we were told “The domain name will be returned to the registry”. And now we learned that it was allegedly sold by the provider even before we had the opportunity to claim it.”
The programmer remembered that eth.link was used to connect the ENS and DNS domain name systems. At the time of writing, for example, when navigating to vitalik.eth.link, the following message appears:
“Services on eth.link will be restored as soon as possible next week.”
It also includes links to the Manifold Finance website and Telegram channel.
Data: eth.link.
Recall that in early September, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin conducted a survey among his Twitter followers about the affordable price of registering a domain name in ENS.
Prior to this, indicators of demand for the service reached record highs.
