Director Quentin Tarantino and Studio Miramax have agreed to file a lawsuit for the NFT collection based on the Pulp Fiction movie.
The parties promised to disclose the details of the agreement reached “within two weeks”.
“We have decided to put this issue behind and we look forward to working together on future projects, including potential NFTs,” the joint statement said.
In November 2021, Tarantino announced an NFT auction based on Pulp Fiction. The entire collection includes seven tokens with excerpts from the filmmaker’s original handwritten script and exclusive audio commentary.
Miramax filed a lawsuit against the director for unfair competition, breach of contract, and copyright claims.
“What your press release calls Tarantino’s “hereto unknown handwritten script” may not yet be “cult” or “fan-favourite.” Obviously, you and the defendant are trying to exploit content, intellectual property, and Miramax branding,” the studio’s lawyers wrote. CEO NFT companies SCRT Labs.
Auctions for the sale of the collection took place on the site of the latter – The Secret Network. Deadline reminded that this is happening despite the announcement of trading in the largest market in the OpenSea segment.
“Possibly OpenSea was reluctant to assist and facilitate your willful copyright infringement,” the lawyers said in a statement.
In January, the buyer paid $1.1 million for the first NFT from the Tarantino collection, called Royale with Cheese.
Recall that since April, the total trading volume in collectible tokens has been in a steady decline. In August alone, the figure fell by almost half from July to $369.53 million.
Solana’s NFT ecosystem showed the opposite trend. In early September, the number of issued tokens reached an all-time high.
