Brazil’s central bank plans to expand its national digital currency (SBDC) pilot project in the second half of 2022. This was stated by the head of the regulator, Roberto Campos Neto.

The value of the digital real will depend on the national payment system STR. According to Neto, the issuance of CBDC will be limited, making it “bitcoin-like”.

He added that he still believes in a form of investment in cryptocurrency rather than a means of payment. It may affect the state recognized Neto instead of mass popularity.

In March, it became known that the Central Bank of Brazil had selected partners to assist in the development of the CBDC. These include DeFi platform Aave, local bitcoin exchange Mercado, and banks Santander Brasil and Itaú Unibanco.

It has been announced by the Central Bank of Jamaica that the digital currency will be launched in 2022.
