Scott Kelly, a former NASA astronaut and orbital record holder, donated $500,000 from the sale of his NFT collection to aid Ukraine.
In 2015 and 2016, Kelly spent 340 days aboard the International Space Station. He immortalized the memory of his flight in the Dreams Out of This World art project, created in partnership with creative studio Orange Comet.
The collection consists of 3333 postcards featuring the astronaut’s image and personal items he wore while in space.
The auction started on the OpenSea trading platform on April 12 and ended within a few hours, raising over $500,000.
“I am proud to announce that my NFT collection is sold out. It’s incredible how, in the midst of war, art has brought us together to help the Ukrainian people,” wrote Scott Kelly.
Proceeds will be donated to the Global Empowerment Mission, a non-profit that actively helps Ukrainians affected by the Russian occupation.
Earlier, ForkLog reported that the Ukrainian Turn Back Alive Foundation received a $250,000 donation from the sale of “dancing entrepreneurs” NFTs.
The Freedom for Ukraine project has launched a fundraiser for humanitarian aid to Ukraine through NFT collections.
